What is God’s Will?

One of the most common questions Christians ask is, “How can I know God’s will for my life?” Whether you’re making a major decision or simply trying to live faithfully each day, it’s natural to want God’s direction.

Many people expect God to reveal His will through dramatic signs or unmistakable circumstances. While God certainly can work that way, Scripture points us to something more consistent: seeking His wisdom through prayer.

God’s Will Begins with God’s Wisdom

The Bible encourages us to ask God for wisdom. James 1:5 says: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

Praying for wisdom is more than asking God to solve a problem. It is inviting Him to shape your thinking, your priorities, and your decisions. As your heart becomes more aligned with His, recognizing His direction becomes clearer.

God’s will is often discovered one faithful step at a time rather than all at once.

Pray Before You Decide

Before making an important decision, pause and pray. Ask God to give you understanding, discernment, and the courage to obey what He reveals through His Word.

Proverbs 3:5–6   “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Instead of asking only, “What do I want to do?” begin asking, “What would honor God most?” That simple shift often becomes the beginning of discovering His will. God doesn’t promise to answer every question immediately, but He does promise to guide those who trust Him and seek His wisdom.
