Tabitha and the Miracle in Acts 9

Tabitha (Dorcus) and the Miracle in Acts 9

Do You Believe in Miracles?

Every one of us comes to moments when we long for God to step in. A diagnosis, a broken relationship, a financial burden—it can leave us wondering if God still works miracles today. The story of Tabitha, also known as Dorcas, in Acts 9:36-42 gives us an unshakable answer: yes, He does.

A Woman of Quiet Influence

Tabitha wasn’t a prophet or a preacher. She was a disciple in Joppa who used her hands to serve. She clothed the poor, comforted widows, and lived out her faith in practical ways. Her quiet acts of love left a deep mark on her community. When she fell ill and died, her friends were heartbroken. They refused to give up hope and sent urgently for Peter.

The Miracle in Joppa

Peter entered the room where mourners wept, holding out the garments Tabitha had made. Their grief told the story of her faithfulness. Peter knelt to pray, then turned to the body and said, “Tabitha, get up.” At that moment, her eyes opened. She sat up, alive again.

This miracle shook the city. News spread, and many believed in the Lord. God’s power to bring life out of death became a living testimony that could not be ignored.

Why Did God Raise Tabitha?

Why this miracle? God could have welcomed Tabitha home. But He chose to restore her because her story wasn’t finished. Her life was a vessel of compassion and influence—and raising her to life multiplied her impact. This miracle wasn’t just for her, but for everyone who would hear and believe.

What About Your Miracle?

Do you need a miracle in your life today? Are you asking God boldly and specifically? Tabitha’s story reminds us that God still moves in ways beyond our understanding. Sometimes He gives exactly what we ask. Other times He works differently—but always for our good and His glory.

Faith means trusting Him with both outcomes. The miracle may come in the way you hope, or it may come in the form of strength, peace, and courage to endure. Either way, God’s hand is at work.

Faith That Lives On

Tabitha’s testimony wasn’t only in her resurrection. Even before her miracle, she was remembered for her everyday obedience—her love, her service, her generosity. Her story reminds us: faith is not just waiting for the miraculous; it is living faithfully in the ordinary.
