Jesus Changes Everything
Distraction is not a modern problem. It is a human one. From the beginning, God’s people have struggled to keep their focus where it belongs. Circumstances press in, competing voices demand attention, and weariness erodes resolve. Over time, focus drifts—and faith weakens.
Scripture calls us back to a single, steady center: Jesus. When Jesus declared, “Before Abraham was born, I am,” He was not offering a metaphor. He was revealing His eternal identity. The same God who spoke from the burning bush stands at the center of our faith today.
Keeping our eyes on Him changes everything.
Jesus Is the Great I AM
Jesus’ words in John 8 were unmistakable: “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” John 8:58, NIV
With this statement, Jesus identified Himself with the eternal God—I AM WHO I AM. He did not claim to be merely a teacher or prophet. He claimed divine identity.
That truth matters for everyday faith because if Jesus is eternal, He is unchanging. If He is unchanging, then He is trustworthy. If He is God, He deserves our full attention. Our faith becomes steady when it is anchored to who Jesus truly is.
Fix Your Eyes on Jesus
Scripture does not tell us to fix our eyes on circumstances, progress, or ourselves. It tells us to fix our eyes on a Person: “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” Hebrews 12:2, NIV
Being focused is not passive. It is intentional. It requires choosing where our attention rests when pressure builds or discouragement sets in. Jesus endured the cross and overcame shame. When we keep our eyes on Him, perseverance becomes possible—even when the path feels heavy or unclear.
Hold On to the Vine
Jesus gave a powerful picture of focused faith—one rooted in relationship rather than effort. Remaining connected to Him is not about striving harder. It is about staying close.
When believers lose focus on Jesus, spiritual strength fades. When they remain connected to Him, life and fruit follow naturally. Holding on to the Vine means drawing identity, direction, and endurance from Christ rather than from shifting circumstances.
Focus sustains relationship, and relationship fuels perseverance.
Why Focus Matters
Scripture consistently reminds us that what we focus on shapes how we live. Our thoughts influence our actions, our attention directs our energy, and our focus determines our direction. That is why believers are urged to think on what is true, take every thought captive, and walk intentionally. Focusing on Jesus guards the heart and steadies the mind when distractions multiply.
The Christian life calls for commitment and perseverance—not perfection. Steadfastness grows when Christ remains central and everything else takes its rightful place around Him.
Running with Perseverance
The Christian life is described as a race—not a sprint: “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Hebrews 12:1, NIV Running well requires focus. Looking back slows progress. Looking around invites distraction. Looking to Jesus keeps us moving forward with purpose.
Paul captured this mindset when he spoke of pressing on toward the goal. Progress comes not from dwelling on what lies behind but from fixing our eyes on what lies ahead in Christ.
Stay Focused on Jesus
Staying focused on Jesus does not happen by accident. It is a daily decision. It means choosing what shapes your thinking, returning to Christ when attention drifts, and letting Jesus define success, direction, and faithfulness.
When believers keep their eyes on the Great I AM, faith becomes resilient. Commitment deepens. Perseverance grows steady.
