Are You Available? Say Yes When God Calls

Are You Available? Say Yes When God Calls

Discover how obedience, not perfection, opens the door to God’s purpose in your life.

God Uses the Willing, Not Just the Able

Some believe God only uses the most spiritual or qualified. But Scripture shows again and again that God often chooses the available—not the able.

If you’ve ever wondered, Can God really use someone like me?—the answer is a resounding yes.

“The Lord said to Abram, ‘Go from your country… to the land I will show you.’ So Abram went…”
Genesis 12:1, 4 (NIV)

No map. No plan. Just a call—and Abraham said yes.

Living with Purpose Starts with Being Available

Many believers today are asking:

  • Does my life have a purpose?
  • Can I really make a difference for God?

If you’re in Christ, the answer is already settled.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)

You were created with a purpose and for a purpose—not because you’re perfect, but because God is.

Availability isn’t about having it all together. It’s about showing up with a willing heart.

“God doesn’t call the qualified—He qualifies and equips the called.

Saying Yes When It’s Uncomfortable

When God called Abraham, he had to leave behind the familiar—his home, family, and his comfort zone.

That wasn’t easy.
But obedience often begins where comfort ends.

Many of us today feel stuck, unsure, or disconnected from our calling. That uncertainty can leave us unsure and sitting on the sidelines.

But here’s the good news: The Holy Spirit is already working in you.
You just need to be listening.

That’s sanctification in motion—God shaping your heart through your willingness to say yes.

If you feel ordinary or underqualified—you’re in good company.
God has a long history of using normal reluctant people for remarkable purposes.

Faith in Action Looks Like Showing Up

So what does being available to God look like in your everyday life?

It Looks Like This…

  • Saying yes when the Spirit nudges you to pray for someone
  • Serving even when you feel underprepared
  • Opening your Bible or joining a small group
  • Mentoring someone younger in the faith

These are small steps of obedience—but they’re the heartbeat of discipleship.

“Small acts of obedience often open the door to God-sized opportunities.”

God Uses Ordinary People to Do Eternal Things

Don’t be waiting to “get your life together” before God can use you.

If you’ve trusted Christ, then you’re already:

  • His child
  • Empowered by His Spirit
  • Called to live with purpose

So live like it.

Whether you’re a Bible study leader, quiet prayer warrior, or brand-new believer—
Your obedience might be the spark that ignites someone else’s faith.

God isn’t looking for perfection.
He’s looking for someone who’s willing to show up!

Coming Next Week

Next Monday, we’ll examine the courage of Shamgar, an interesting (maybe even strange) story of one of Israel’s judges.

Let’s Talk – Reflection & Discussion

Use these questions for your personal reflection or small group:

  1. When have you felt God asking you to step out in faith?
  2. What’s one area where God may be calling for your availability?
  3. What small act of obedience can you take this week?

Until next time—get wisdom and pursue truth.

Blessings,
Steve
